THE FLEXIBILITY TEST

This test measures the flexibility
of the lower back and hamstrings.

A two-foot long straight line is marked on the floor.
This is the baseline.
From this baseline is another measuring line
(perpendicular to the baseline's midpoint).
This measuring line extends one foot,
and inches are marked and indicated
in half-inch increments.
The point where the baseline
and measuring line meet
is the "0" point.

The students sits on the floor
with the measuring line centered between his ankles.
Heals are placed 8 to 12 inches apart,
immediately behind the baseline.
Fingers are interlocked,
one hand on top of the other,
palms facing down.

Legs are held flat by a partner
just above the knees
as student slowly reaches forward
as far as possible,
keeping fingers on measuring line

The student must hold his reach
for 3 seconds
.

Scores are recorded to the nearest half inch.
