LARGE (HUGE!) FACILITY

On May 1, 2004, we moved out of Wake Forest
12 minutes away into a 5000 sq.ft. dojo in North Raleigh.
Our new home is absolutely beautiful!
The threat of CVS bulldozing our Wake Forest dojo
forced us to search for a new home.
Well, we certainly found one, and a wonderful one at that!

The last time we moved was on January 1, 2001.
At that time, we had to move because our dojo was to small
and we were growing and growing.
We moved a mile from our previous location, moving from a 2000 sq. ft. dojo
to a 3500 sq.ft. dojo in downtown Wake Forest's historic section.
We loved our old dojo, but this newest place is even nicer!

In past years, over 200 students and their families
celebrate at our annual picnic held at the lake.

MONEY

FEES DUE

.. Fees are always due the first of the month
.. and considered late if received after the 7th.

LATE PAYMENTS

We have always collected payments on the honor system,
and 98% of the time,
there has not been a problem with that in 15 years.
As with everything, there are exceptions.
There are those (a vast minority) who continue to pay late.
That is why we have imposed late fees.

Fees are due the 7th of the month.
There is a grace period until the 14th,
but if fees are not collected by then,
there will be a $5 late fee.
Each week the fees are not collected,
there will be an additional $5 charge.

DISCOUNTS

.. Many of you are taking advantage
.. of paying ahead and receiving a discount
.. on your monthly fees, which is good.
.. Bear in mind, tho,

.. Because you are making a commitment,
.. that’s why there’s such a discount.

NO FEE INCREASE
.. There has been no fee increase for 2009.
.. Fees are kept low so families can afford it,
.. and also, Red Sun has summer and Christmas breaks.

TESTING

TESTING FOR A BELT STRIPE

Contact Sensei or any black belt to test for a Belt Stripe...
it only takes a few minutes.
Only Sensei can test you for your red stripe, tho.

YOU MUST HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE TO TEST

You must have good attendance to qualify to test.
That means, for the most part,
averaging two classes a week
(not counting illnesses or vacations).
Poor attendance has prevented a several students
from testing in the past.
Don’t let it happen to you.

FITNESS CLASSES

.. Don’t forget to attend 5 or more Fitness classes.
.. This is a requirement for teens and adults
.. that must be met before testing for your next rank.
.. The Fitness Classes are fun
.. and meet every Saturday from 10-11am.

1 MILE RUN REQUIREMENT

.. Remember, any student testing for black belt
.. must run one mile prior to his or her test.
.. This can occur up to two months prior to testing date.

SICK-ICK

DO NOT COME TO CLASS SICK

.. If you are contagious
.. (starting to catch a cold, sore throat, fever, etc.)
.. and come to class,
.. or you send your child to class,
.. you are exposing others to you illness.
.. Please do not do this.

If you miss class because you're sick
and you were considerate enough to stay out
so as not to infect others,
I can work individually with you later
when you are well to get you caught up,
if you'd like.

SATURDAY CLASSES

.. Your kata and self-defense moves
.. will be reviewed during the Saturday classes.
.. Sensei is also there to work individually
.. with any student who wishes.

ADOPT-A-WHITE BELT

Anyone who's orange belt or above
can help out any white belt or any student
who requests help. Once you do this,
you earn a purple stripe.
Higher ranks – please help out.

SPARRING GEAR

All sparring gear purchased and used at Red Sun
must be white, as it is more traditional.
If a student enters Red Sun
and already has colored gear,
it is not expected to buy new,
as that would be a financial hardship.
But when the colored gear gets old
and new gear is bought, it should be white.

Also remember to mark your name on your gear!

SAYING "Yeah" IN THE DOJO
Training in the martial arts involves a degree of formality.
The student can be casual outside the dojo,
but in the formal training hall,
the student should not reply “yeah.”
Please respond by saying either
“Yes Sir/Sensei” or “Osu!” when acknowledged in class.
